Hawaii, is the 50th and most recent United States state. It is an isolated volcanic archipelago in the Central Pacific. Honolulu is the capital city of Hawaii island. For my birthday, I planned a trip to Hawaii. What made it even more special was that my best friend Akshata joined me for the trip (but a day later) from Bangalore, India.
Day 1 on the arrival into the capital city, I had planned for the scuba diving tour, which was cancelled due to the high tides.

So I decided to explore the near by beaches and buy some souvenirs. One of the famous beaches is the Waikiki beach. Waikiki Beach is just one of the five beaches in the district, the other four being Kuhio Beach, Gray’s Beach, Fort DeRussy Beach and Kahanamoku Beach.
On Day 2, Akshata joined me and of course there was no stop for the excitement and the chit chat. We spent the entire morning catching up on all the stories.
We took half a day Honolulu city tour in the afternoon. The guide cum driver took us around the East coast to show us some of the spectacular views of the island.

The first stop was at the Waikiki beach, which had some of the big banyan trees. The history goes that these big banyan trees were imported into Hawaii island from India.
The second stop was the Sandy beach. Sandy beach is known for its body boarding and body surfing opportunities due to short break that breaks very close to the shore. However this beach is also the most dangerous beach in Hawaii due to the number of injuries that occur per year.
On the west is the Hanauma Bay. I believe the ’50 first dates’ movie was shot on this beach.
The third stop was at the Nu’uanu Pali lookout. Nu’uanu Pali is the windward cliff of the Ko’olau mountain.
The fourth stop was at the Diamond Head lookout. Diamond Head is the volcanic cone, also known as Le’ahi.
The fifth and the last stop was at the Rabbit mountain lookout.
Day 3 was dedicated to the adventure. We had planned to do a sky dive. Even though this was my second dive, it was the best one I have done. I was more confident and I knew what I had to expect. The views from above were breathtakingly beautiful.

In the evening, as part of my birthday dinner, Akshata had planned for the authentic Hawaiian dinner at Paradise Cove Luau. Unfortunately, this got cancelled as well due to the heavy rains.
On Day 4, we had booked the tour to explore the Big Island. The Big Island is the largest island in Hawaii. It has the diverse terrains and is home to two active volcanoes – Kilauea and Mauna Loa.

The first stop was at the Black Sand beach.
The second stop was at the Rainbow falls.
The third stop was at Mauna Loa Macadamia Nuts factory.
The fourth stop was at Thomas A. Jaggar Museum. Thomas A. Jaggar was an American volcanologist and this observatory museum is dedicated to him. The observatory monitors four active Hawaiian volcanoes: Kīlauea, Mauna Loa, Hualālai, and Haleakalā.
In a nutshell, this was one of the memorable trips I have had. Hawaii and its memories will be very close to my heart and it was even more memorable because of Akshata who joined me to celebrate my birthday.
