Antargange Trek

Antargange Trek (2024)

After numerous planning and rescheduling attempts, I finally conquered the summit of Antargange Hill. This trek had long been on my Karnataka bucket list, yet various obstacles had prevented me from undertaking it. Despite its reputation for nocturnal exploration, I opted for a daytime trek. Antargange was among the finest day treks near Bangalore, offering easy accessibility and an ideal adventure for thrill-seekers.

About Antargange

Antargange, translating to “Ganga from within” or “Ganga of the Deep” in Kannada, is a prominent hill in the Kolar district of Karnataka. Rising to an elevation of 1712 meters, this hill holds significant religious importance, boasting a revered Lord Shiva temple and earning the moniker “Dakshin Kashi.”

The optimal time to explore Antargange is during the winter, from November to February, when the weather is mild and enjoyable. Conversely, summer brings scorching heat and high humidity, considerably challenging the trek. For a more comfortable experience, it’s advisable to embark on the trek at night or early morning to evade the intense sun.

The second phase of the trek marks the commencement of the actual adventure. Trekking Agency

While this trek is feasible with a group of friends, being a solo traveller, I opted to join a trekking agency for added convenience. Choosing Bangalore Mountaineering Club (BMC) Adventures proved wise, as I always enjoy their well-organized outings and the opportunity to connect with fellow adventurers. The trek package, priced at INR 1297 + GST, covered transportation, permit fees, breakfast and lunch, and guide charges, ensuring a hassle-free and enjoyable experience.

Important Information

  • For the Antargange trek, embarking with a trekking agency isn’t necessary, as the route is straightforward. However, when venturing into the caves, it’s advisable to accompany one of the trekking volunteers from MyEcoTrip.
  • Individuals prone to claustrophobia should exercise caution, as some narrow passages within the caves may trigger discomfort.
  • Beware of monkeys along the trail and safeguard your belongings, particularly food items.
  • It’s essential to carry an ample water supply, as there are no available water sources within the cave or along the path to the peak. The sun’s intensity can be harsh with minimal shade, except within the caves.
  • Pack a lunch to enjoy either within the cave or at the summit.
  • Comfortable footwear with a sturdy grip is recommended, especially for navigating caves.
  • A flashlight is indispensable for exploring the caves.
  • While network coverage is generally available throughout the trek, intermittent connectivity spots may exist within the caves.
  • Vendors selling tender coconuts and cucumbers are scattered along the route, so ensure to carry sufficient cash for purchases.
  • Please note that toilet facilities are unavailable near the temple or the trekking route.
  • Exercise caution and tread carefully, particularly on the rocky terrain and boulders.

Is Antargange Trek Safe for Solo Female Trekkers?

Trekking with a companion is always recommended to ensure preparedness for unexpected circumstances. While the Antargange trek is generally considered safe due to the presence of fellow trekkers along the trail, I would advise against solo trekking, particularly during the cave exploration portion. A buddy provides safety and support, enhancing the trekking experience.
