Watch an Event at Band Stand

The historic Band Stand at Cubbon Park was ceremoniously unveiled on March 14, 1918, marking a significant moment in its cultural legacy. Once a bustling venue for musical performances and various events, it bore witness to the inaugural performance by the esteemed Mysore Maharaja’s infantry band. Notably, in 1927, the illustrious Madras Pioneer Group delivered a splendid performance to commemorate the silver jubilee of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s reign, further cementing its place in history.

Over time, the challenges of accommodating large crowds led to declining events and performances at the Band Stand. However, to revive its cultural significance, the Horticulture Department and the Department of Kannada and Culture collaborated in 2015. Together, they embarked on a mission to reintroduce cultural events on Sundays, breathing new life into this cherished landmark and reigniting its role as a cultural hub within Cubbon Park.
