Best Scuba Dive Sites in Pondicherry

Pondicherry’s coastline has faced the detrimental effects of overfishing, leading to a decline in marine biodiversity. However, a collaborative effort between local fishermen and dive centres has created artificial reefs to rejuvenate the aquatic ecosystem in Pondicherry’s waters.

Implementing artificial reefs has proven effective in restoring fish populations, transforming Pondicherry into a premier dive destination in India. Beneath the surface, a vibrant array of marine life awaits exploration, offering divers a captivating underwater experience.

Despite the warm climate, wearing a full-sleeved wetsuit is advisable to protect against potential stings—I learned this the hard way after being stung while wearing a half-sleeved suit.

Access to all dive sites is exclusively by boat, so remember to take a seasickness tablet before embarking on your journey.

Visibility underwater is subject to the prevailing ocean conditions on the dive day, making it impossible to predict the clarity or what you might encounter. Approach each dive with an open mind and a sense of adventure.
