Dine at Local Restaurants

Mooloolaba boasts many dining options, with numerous restaurants and cafes. The Esplanade, located by the wharf, is renowned for its delicious culinary offerings. Whether you’re craving international flavours or local delicacies, there’s something to suit every palate and budget. During my visit, I enjoyed dining at establishments like Lotus Thai and The Surf Club, where I was impressed by the freshness and delectable taste of the food served.

Swim with the Whales

My journey to Mooloolaba was primarily fueled by the desire to swim with whales—a dream I’ve harboured since catching sight of humpback whales from above the water’s surface. The snorkelling expedition spans approximately 4 hours, during which the boat navigates to the renowned “Whale Highway” and patiently awaits the appearance of these majestic creatures. Once the whales are sighted, snorkelers eagerly gear up and plunge into the water, eagerly anticipating the whales’ presence.

  • Company: Sunreef Mooloolaba is Australia’s pioneering dive centre for organising swimming tours with humpback whales.
  • Cost: AUD 229.
  • Given that the whales reside in their natural habitat, their willingness to engage with humans is entirely at their discretion. Regrettably, although we caught glimpses of several whales from the surface during my excursion, I did not have the opportunity to encounter them underwater.

Have a Gelato

The Wharf and the Esplanade are dotted with charming ice cream shops offering a delightful selection of gelato flavours. Treat yourself to a scoop and stroll to witness the mesmerizing sunset by the Wharf. The truly captivating experience provides a moment of sheer beauty and tranquillity.

Various cruises and ferries embark on excursions dedicated to this mesmerizing experience, typically lasting 3 to 4 hours. Visitors are almost guaranteed to encounter at least one of these magnificent creatures this season.

  • The cost of a whale-watching cruise typically ranges from AUD 40 to AUD 100.
  • It’s important to note that whales are wild animals, and cruise companies cannot guarantee their presence.
