How to Get to Kakkabe?

Kakkabe, an exquisite village in Madikeri/Coorg, serves as the launching pad and the central hub for the trekking expedition.

By Road

The distance from Bangalore city to Kakkabe spans approximately 260 kilometres, with a travel time of roughly 6 hours. Opting for a trek with a professional agency ensures a seamless experience, as the package typically encompasses transportation to and from Bangalore.

By Public Transport

For an optimal journey from Bangalore city to Kakkabe, the most recommended mode of transportation is by bus. Regular and frequent bus services connect the Satellite bus stop in Bangalore to Madikeri (Coorg), with KRCTC Volvo buses as the premier choice among bus providers.

Trekking in Coorg: Tadiyanmol Trek

Certainly, Tadiyanmol stands out as one of the finest treks I’ve experienced in the Western Ghats. Positioned at a moderate difficulty level, it offers an ideal entry point for hikers venturing into trekking. Though not overly challenging, the trail is best tackled outside the summer months.

Securing permission from the forest checkpoint in the Bhagamandala Range forest is a prerequisite, incurring a fee of INR 100 per person.

The trek to the peak spans a round trip of approximately 14 kilometres, commencing from the starting point in Kakkabe. Rated as a moderate difficulty level, the trail is reasonably well-defined. Kayaking is conducted on one of the tributaries of the Cauvery River, covering a serene stretch of approximately 1.5 kilometers with a gentle, slow-flowing current, ensuring a completely safe experience. The trekking agency is responsible for organizing the kayaking segment, so it’s essential to communicate with them when booking the trek to include this enjoyable activity in your adventure itinerary.

Tibetian Golden Monastery

The Tibetan Golden Monastery, known as Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, graces the town of Bylakuppe and serves as the residence for a vibrant community of approximately 5000 lamas (monks). Established in 1963 by the 11th throneholder of the Palyul lineage, Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche, this spiritual haven hosts various ceremonies, with the Tibetan New Year, based on the Lunar calendar and typically falling in February or March, being particularly renowned.

Welcoming visitors, the monastery opens its doors from 9 AM to 6 PM daily, allowing guests to explore its cultural and religious richness. Remarkably, there is no entry fee, making it accessible to all.

The Tibetan Golden Monastery is located approximately 65 kilometers away from Kakkabe village, and the journey by car typically takes around 2 hours.

Nalknad Palace

Constructed in 1792 by Doddaveerarajendra, the Nalknad Palace is a two-story edifice with profound historical significance. This palace functioned as a refuge for Chikkaveerarajendra until he ultimately surrendered to the British in 1834.

Is Trekking in Coorg (Tadiyanmol Trek) Safe for Solo Female Trekkers?

Solo hiking is not recommended due to the presence of wild animals, occasional solitude on the path, and the risk of getting lost. As a general rule, it is always prudent to have a companion when venturing into the wilderness for hiking or trekking, ensuring preparedness for any unforeseen situations.
