Where is Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park?

Nestled in the northern reaches of Sydney, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park stands as a protected haven. Its establishment dates back to 1894, and it is Australia’s second-oldest national park.

c National Park is among my favourite hiking destinations, renowned for its captivating bushwalks, Aboriginal heritage sites, and the picturesque Hawkesbury River bordering one side.

Enthusiastic hikers traverse its trails year-round, relishing the diverse landscapes. However, caution is warranted during the rainy season when the rocks and pathways may become slippery, posing challenges for even the seasoned hiker.

Additionally, tackling the trails under the scorching summer sun demands preparation, as the combination of heat and humidity can make the hike particularly strenuous. Stay well-hydrated by carrying ample water to ensure a safe and enjoyable exploration of this captivating national park.

  • By Public Transport – Regrettably, direct public transport to the Bobbin Inn Cafe from the Bobbin Head Road access is unavailable. The nearest train station, Mt Ku-Ring-Gai, is approximately 5 kilometres away, requiring a walk of about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Alternatively, for those starting the walk from the Sphinx Memorial using public transport, the journey begins by taking a train from Central to Turramurra train station. Subsequently, the next step is a bus from Turramurra to Ku-Ring-Gai Creative Arts High School. From there, a 750-meter walk brings you to the Sphinx Memorial.
