Are you planning to do the Dzukou Valley Trek? You’ve come to the right place! This guide will provide all the essential information you need for a successful trek from Viswema Village.
During my visit to Nagaland, the two standout experiences were the Hornbill Festival and the Dzukou Valley Trek. Both had their unique charm, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy them. The memories from each experience are unforgettable.
On the Dzukou Valley Trek, I was captivated by the stunning natural beauty surrounding us. With its lush greenery and breathtaking landscapes, the trek was everything I had hoped for and more. Although challenging, the trail rewarded us with expansive plateaus and vibrant valleys that made every step worthwhile. We hiked through steep sections, and the effort paid off in the form of awe-inspiring views. Along the way, we met fellow trekkers, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Though the trek suits both groups and solo travellers, there’s something truly special about sharing the adventure with friends. We never felt isolated, as people were always around, and the community atmosphere among trekkers added to the excitement.
If you’re planning the trek, I recommend travelling with a group, especially if you’re new to trekking. It provides both a sense of security and companionship. The beauty of Dzukou Valley and the camaraderie of fellow trekkers made this journey one we’ll always cherish.

Dzukou Valley, located on the border between Nagaland and Manipur, is one of Northeast India’s most stunning and serene trekking destinations. Sitting around 8,000 feet in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, the valley is known for its lush green landscapes, colourful seasonal flowers, and breathtaking views.
It is often called the “Valley of Flowers” of the Northeast, especially during the blooming season from October to May. During this time, visitors can enjoy the sight of unique flowers such as the Dzukou lily, rhododendrons, and euphorbia, adding vibrant hues to the valley.
About Dzukou Valley Trek
There are two primary approaches:
- One from Zakhama village and
- Another from Viswema village.
The Zakhama route is more challenging, with steep steps and a longer trekking time, while the Viswema route offers a shorter and more scenic experience. Both routes converge at a dorm where trekkers can rest for the night.
While the trek is moderately difficult, it is manageable for anyone in good physical condition. The nights in December can be extremely cold, so it’s advisable to bring extra blankets and warm clothing.
