One day trip to Hobbiton movie set

I am one of those few people in the world who has never understood or read the series of Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton but still have managed to visit the Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton movie sets in New Zealand. The day trip to Hobbiton is extended with the visit to Waitomo Caves. And both, Hobbiton movie set and Waitomo Caves, are definitely must visit places in New Zealand.

The North Island has some amazing hiking trails and one of them is the Lake Waikaremoana track, which is very beautiful and pretty.

Safety for solo female travelers

New Zealand is one of the safest countries I have ever traveled. It is very tourist friendly and hence absolutely safe for solo female travelers. I have done many trips to New Zealand and most of them were solo. I have never had any issues whatsoever. However, like any other place, be careful and know your surroundings, especially at night.

  1. As fans of the Lord of the Rings series, we would definitely want to visit the Hobbiton movie sets in New Zealand. Since it has been awhile since we saw a show, a guided tour would be a great way to recall the scenes with the setting. We would definitely plan enough time to see the Waitomo Glowworm Caves as well!

  2. While I have read and liked the Lord of the Rings as well as The Hobbit, I did not make it to Hobbington when I was travelling New Zealand (I saw the streetsigns though). But recently I visited some Game of Thornes locations in Iceland and Malta without having seen any episode of the series.

  3. Although I’m exactly the generation that was just crazy about all the Tolkien books, I never got the hang of it. However, those little huts look really cute and I think that it’s fun to visit – especially with kids, obviously.

  6. I haven’t read the Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton series also. But I will read the books first before I go to Hobbiton movie set to understand the characters and who lives in this house and what happened to this hobbit and things like that. I also like that visitors can go to Waitomo Glowworm Cave when in the area.
