PK Ponnappa’s Court, Homestay in Coorg (2024)
Are you a fan of staying at homestays on your travels? Then I am exactly like you. I love homestays and the local feel that these places give. As I think travel is also about experiencing the culture and enjoying what the locals have to provide, I try to stay at homestays, especially when I am travelling to small towns or remote places. Similarly, while travelling to Coorg, I had an opportunity to stay at PK Ponnappa’s Court, which is, I think, the best homestay in Coorg that is so close to the town.

Ambience and Hospitality at PK Ponnappa’s Court
Interiors and Exteriors
The homestay is very thoughtfully built, and it follows a black-and-white theme. Every corner and thing you will find at the homestay is black or white. Regardless of which direction you look from the homestay, you will see lush green surrounded by nature.
Owners and Staff members
Everyone in this homestay is friendly and soft-spoken. They are all locals who know how to respect and treat their guests. The owner, Bharat, also stays in the property and makes sure that the guests are comfortable at all times.
The homestay also has three beautiful dogs, two huskies and one Labrador retriever puppy. All these three dogs are amiable and love to interact if you want to. Even their dogs are black and white.
Food/Restaurant at PK Ponnappa’s Court
The homestay has an in-house restaurant or a place where the food is prepared. The food served at the homestay is authentic Coorgi food. The Kodava community love their food made of Pork, which is served at the homestay. But if you are like me and do not eat pork, then you do have other options, such as vegetarian food. Also, if you do not want to eat the Coorgi cuisine, there are options for Indian, Continental and other dishes for extra charges.
All the items are locally prepared in the kitchen on the ground floor of the big building with the event halls. The food is served at a common dining area on the main villa’s ground floor. All the dishes that we were served were delicious and beautiful.
- Note that the breakfast is complementary to your stay.
Amenities at PK Ponnappa’s Court
Basic Facilities
Each room and cottage has tea/coffee makers, microwaves, drinking water, light snacks, and basic toiletries. There is also complimentary Wi-Fi, but the network is intermittent currently.
Gudda Bath
The highlight of the cottages is the traditional Gudda bath. In a Gudda bath, water is heated in a conventional copper/mud pot with firewood. At these cottages, the water is heated from firewood burnt outside. This used to be how the villagers and small-towners bathed back then. This Gudda or Hande was how we bathed at my grandmother’s home, so it was a nostalgic experience for me.
Barbeque and Campfire
To unwind the day, the homestay has campfire and barbeque facilities. Both the cottages have individual campfire spaces and one common campfire area opposite the main villa.
Party and Event Halls
The homestay also has a three-storeyed building (apart from the main villa) with the ground level as a kitchen and the top two levels as event halls. The hall (Hall 1) on the second floor has a bar counter, bookshelves, a music system, and a dance floor, and the hall (Hall 2) on the third floor is more spacious with a food and drink counter. The guests can hire these two halls for additional charges to host private events, parties, and conferences.
