Introduction to Kudremukh
Kudremukh, which means the ‘head of a horse‘ in Kannada, is one of the mountains in the Western Ghats. It is in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka and is about 284 kilometres from Bangalore.
The peak is the third highest peak in Western Ghats and is at a height of 6207 feet. The hike goes through the lush valley and the hills surrounding it. The hike is totally worth it as the greenery is something that is stunning during the hike.
Logistics of Kudremukh
- Hike to the peak: approximately 22 kilometres return from the base camp.

- Grade: Moderate. The trail is quite well defined, however hiring a guide is recommended due to the abundance wildlife that the place has.
- Season: October to May.
- Note: One cannot stay inside the Kudremukh national park, so you will need to return to the home stay. Only 50 people are allowed to trek in a day.There is abundant wildlife, so make sure to keep an eye on the bisons or birds.The base camp is a short jeep ride from the nearest village.
