Dantes Glen Blue Mountains

Nature’s Hidden Gem: Dantes Glen Loop Walk in the Blue Mountains (2024)

The Dantes Glen loop walk is definitely one of the most memorable hikes I have done in the Blue Mountains. Not because it had the best hiking trail ever, but because I was bitten by at least 4 leaches during the hike. I did not realise the bites during the hike but I noticed them when I came back home.

Are you visiting Blue Mountains for the first time? Then read my post Blue Mountains as a tourist.

Located near the town of Wentworth Falls, Dantes Glen loop walk is a walk in the Blue Mountains area of New South Wales (NSW). Known for its lush forest, picturesque waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs, the Dantes Glen loop walk is a moderate walk that passes through several waterfalls and the bushes. If you love wildflowers, then this walk provides an opportunity to see and admire the wildflowers and trees.

Another national park that is great to see the wildflowers is the Muogamarra Nature Reserve. Open only for 6 weeks, this park has plenty of walks that you can take to see the wildflowers.

Third stop was at the Echo point and then our last stop was at Frederica falls before we finished up at the starting point.

The Dantes Glen loop walk touches partly with the Valley of the Waters which is another amazing hike in the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains has plenty of other walks that you can do as well such as The Hanging Rock, The Grand Canyon, Ruined Castle, Castle Head, Six Foot Track, Glenbrook to Red Hands Cave, Blackfellows Hand Cave, and Govetts Leap to Pulpit Rock.

  • Starting and finishing point: Lawson train station if traveling by public transport. Car park at St Bernards Drive in Lawson if traveling by a car.
  • Distance: 9 kilometers, including the distance from the train station.
  • Grade: Moderate (with some parts of the walk as Hard).
  • Time taken: Approx. 4 hours (with lots of photography breaks).
  • Type of walk: Loop.
  • Path: Lawson train station – Fairy falls – Michaels falls – Echo Point – Frederica falls – Lawson train station.

Be prepared for lots of leeches when you are hiking during the rains. I had a lot of leech bites as we did do the hike when it was raining. To get rid of the leeches, use the solution that you get at a pharmacy. The solution ensures that the leech falls off your skin.

Safety for solo female travelers

As a general rule of trekking and hiking, it is always good to go with a hiking buddy. Since there are lots of bushes on the hiking trail, it is best to go with someone rather than hiking alone. So I definitely suggest going with a friend or some one so one can be prepared for any unforeseen situations.
