Melbourne is one of the largest and beautiful cities in Australia. It is the capital of the state Victoria. Melbourne has a huge European influence. And Melbourne is definitely one of my favourite cities in Australia. There are plenty of things to do while in Melbourne – in the city itself and as well as the places around Melbourne.
Below are some of my favourite things to do in the city:
Hosier Lane – It is the mecca of street art. The vibrant lanes filled with wall arts are a bliss. I have visited Hosier Lane many times and the lane has been different all the time. I have never seen the same art twice.
St Kilda or Brighton beach – Both the beaches are beautiful. St Kilda is famous for its busy and beautiful local market. Brighton beach is famous for its colorful shacks.
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MGC) – If you are a cricket lover, then taking a tour at MGC is a must.
Eureka Sky deck – Panoramic views of Melbourne is breathtaking. And Eureka sky deck can provide those panoramic views.
Coffee – Australians love their coffee and food. Melbourne is surely a place to try various cafes and food. Swanston Street has many cafes and trying the coffee is a must.
Shrine of Remembrance – Pay a visit to Shrine of Remembrance to respect all the souls who have sacrificed their lives to protect this beautiful country.
Shopping – If you are in for some retail therapy, then Melbourne is the place to be. Shopping in the Central Business District (CBD) is an amazing experience. One can get stuff for any range – from the budgeted to the most expensive things. The Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) is another great place to shop.
Tram ride – Melbourne has trams that are a great way to travel within the CBD. City circle tram has continuous commentary providing information about the various famous spots in Melbourne.
Yarra River – Taking a stroll around the Yarra River is a great way to spend an evening in Melbourne. The river is beautiful and it provides fresh air right in between the city.
Victoria Zoo – I loved this zoo. It has many varieties of animals.
These are just few things to do in Melbourne. The city definitely has many more things to do. It also has many art museums and churches.
